Chasing Embers
Chasing Embers marks Glenn Beck’s first young adult novel, a story rooted in mystery, courage, and coming of age. As creative director for the project, I was responsible for developing the full visual identity of the book, including the design of the cover jacket and guiding the overall aesthetic direction across print and illustration.

Illustration
The cover art is striking and symbolic. Illustrated by Jake Thompson, it features the book’s protagonist silhouetted against a massive wall of fire—walking toward it, unflinching. The flames are stylized, almost woodcut-like in texture, with radiant embers carving a path through the dark. The typography is bold, custom-styled, and slightly vintage, echoing classic genre covers with a modern dystopian twist.
To bring the design to life physically, we incorporated a glow-in-the-dark varnish on the cover typography.
When the lights go out the title glows, mirroring the book’s central metaphor: even in darkness, embers carry light. This production detail gave the jacket a tactile, magical quality and made it stand out both on shelves and in hand.
